GO Country Hotels in Glasgow

Places to Stay in Glasgow While the city has plenty of accommodation for action seekers, those wanting to take time out to relax may need to venture further afield to places to stay in the country.

Commanding over 100 acres of parkland, the Cameron House Hotel [map] in Loch Lomond should meet anyone’s definition of a country hotel. Each room comes complete with all the usual facilities, as well as a sitting room from which you can enjoy breathtaking views of the grounds. Inside the hotel you can take advantage of the glass-backed squash courts, lagoon-style swimming pool and gym while the playroom and Cammie Club keep the kids amused. Outdoor types are also well catered for, as there is a daily programme of activities on offer that includes croquet on the lawn, mountain biking, pony trekking fishing and water skiing. There’s also a nine-hole golf course on site.

Surrounded by more than three times as much land as Cameron House, Gleddoch House [map] in Langbank can really boast some stunning views. Formerly the home of shipping baron Sir James Lithgow, this home has been transformed into a luxury five star hotel. Rooms here feature four poster beds and en suite facilities, but there’s also an excellent restaurant, 18-hole golf course and an equestrian centre all on site. Prices for this accommodation are not cheap, but they do include Scottish breakfast and a complimentary newspaper.

And if you’re looking for a more affordable place to stay in the country you could try Tambowie Farm [map] in Milngavie. Just 20 minutes away from Glasgow Airport and the city centre, this bed and breakfast has a stunning rural setting that will give you the chance to breath plenty of fresh air. There’s also three golf courses within a mile of this farmhouse accommodation so that should keep any golfers in the family happy. The accommodation is open all year round so whenever you fell the need for a Glasgow escape pad that boasts panoramic views and a generous breakfast, this should be on your list.

For a truly relaxing getaway, why not stay in the heart of an 18th cotton village, where history and tranquillity go hand in hand. New Lanark village is a world heritage site located less than an hour away from Glasgow, and within it’s boundaries you’ll find the New Lanark Mill Hotel [map]. This former mill has been carefully transformed into a hotel haven for those who want to take a step back from the hustle of life. Each room is spacious, comfortable and boasts views of the River Clyde. And this hotel has also won a national accessibility award with five rooms built for wheelchair access.

Being further out from Glasgow, you may want to spend the day in New Lanark village, if so, you’ll find that the hotel has an on site restaurant, which uses fresh local produce in the preparation of its lunch and dinner menus wherever possible. In addition, there’s also an award-winning visitors centre close by that will tell you all the interesting facts about the area.
