Guide to Glasgow |
 |
 |
If you’re
looking for a relaxing night out why not catch a movie
at one of Glasgow’s many cinemas,
such as the centrally located Odeon [map] or the state-of-the-art IMAX Theatre at the Glasgow
Science Centre [map].
For those who prefer live drama there is a good selection
of theatres in the city centre,
including the Theatre Royal [map],
where you can watch ballets and operas, and the King’s
Theatre [map] that plays host to touring West End musicals.
After seeing some of the UK’s best dancers in action
you may fancy learning a few steps for yourself, so why
not join in the fun at one of Glasgow’s many dance
schools. At the Dance Factory [map] you can learn ballet, tap and salsa, while at Deesdancing
[map] you can give the Strictly Come Dancing team a run for
their money by trying ballroom and Latin.
If you enjoy live music and
want to see some of the best bands in the business then
get along to The Barrowland [map] for rock acts or the Scottish Exhibition and Conference
Centre [map] for pop.
For jazz and blues you should try the trendy Corinthian
bar [map] where famous actors such as Ewan McGregor hang out,
while at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall [map] you can see the Royal Scottish National Orchestra perform.
Die hard clubbers are also well catered for in Glasgow
with some of the country’s best nightclubs being located here, including Archaos [map] and The Arches [map].
If you like to combine clubbing with celeb-spotting then
pay a visit to Babaza [map],
a hang out for footballers and TV presenters, or The
Tunnel [map],
where Brad Pitt and Kylie Minogue have been known to strut
their stuff.
For an evening of laughter check out one of city’s comedy clubs, such as Jongleurs
[map] and The Stand [map] that both attract big name comedians at the weekend.
So your nights in Glasgow are all booked up but what are
you going to do to keep you busy during the day?
Fear not, there are so many exciting attractions, fascinating museums and amazing art
galleries that your only problem will be deciding
where to start.
The city is home to some of Scotland’s best museums including the Museum of Transport [map] and the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery [map],
which was the first public attraction of its kind in the
country.
There is also a good stock of art
galleries in the city, such as the world famous Burrell
Collection [map],
which has more than 9,000 works of art on display, and
the popular Gallery of Modern Art [map].
Other places worth visiting if you have time during your
stay are the Botanic Gardens [map],
where you’ll find wonderful tropical plants and
flowers, and the Tolbooth Steeple [map],
which was once a prison for witches and murderers.
When it comes to sport Glasgow
also has a lot to offer, as it is home to two of the best
football teams in the country, Rangers, who play
at Ibrox Stadium [map] and Celtic, who play at Celtic Park [map].
