GO Cinema In Glasgow

Cinema in Glasgow
There are a number of cinemas in Glasgow offering a wide variety of films, from Hollywood blockbusters and children’s movies, to Bollywood classics and art house films.

The city’s main multiplex is the Odeon [map], which is situated right in the heart of central Glasgow. Films on show here include all the new releases, children’s flicks and old classics making the cinema first choice for many film fans, so it is advisable to book your tickets in advance. There is another 12-screen Odeon on Paisley Road [map] on the quay, which also offers mainstream films for all ages.

Glasgow’s other multiplex is the seven-screen UGC Cinema [map], located near the Forge Shopping Centre in the East End of the city. As you’d expect in a cinema, there is a range of pick and mix sweets, drinks, hot dogs and of course popcorn.

If you prefer to be at the cutting edge of cinematic technology then get along to the Glasgow Science Centre where you’ll find the stunning state-of-the-art IMAX Theatre [map]. At 80 by 60 feet, it's Scotland's biggest cinema screen and the 12,000-watt sound system has to be heard to be believed.

For art house films check out Glasgow Film Theatre [map], a cultural mecca that offers arty films from all corners of the globe with study days and themed seasons thrown into the bargain. Family and kids' films also appear here regularly.

If you want a taste of Bollywood then head to the Bombay Cinema [map] on Lorne Street, a purpose-built picture house and the only one in Glasgow to screen Indian films.

Or for a more intimate night out try the Gilmorehill Centre [map] at Glasgow University, which has one tiny screen showing a selection of movies from the Glasgow Film Theatre programme, as well as old classics and cult favourites. Please note that this cinema is only open seasonally.

The Caledonian Grosvenor [map] is also a small affair with only two screens, but it offers a good programme of both mainstream and art house films.
