As
County Durham’s capital, Durham has plenty of bus
and coach services on offer linking it to major towns
and cities around the UK.
If you’re travelling from nearby then there are
regular services into the city centre from Chester-le-Street,
Darlington and Bishop Auckland, along with direct services
from nearby cities, Newcastle and Sunderland, and the
Metro Centre.
Those coming from further a field would be best using
the services offered by National Express,
which connects Durham to other major UK cities.
Leaving from Durham Bus and Coach Station [map],
which is on North Road near the train station, National
Express coaches travel directly to a number of cities,
including Manchester, London, Leeds and Edinburgh. You
can also get connections from these destinations to Gatwick,
Heathrow, Manchester and Glasgow International airports.
The journey time to Durham from the capital is around
six hours, it takes four hours from Edinburgh, two and
a half from Leeds and three hours from Manchester.
If you want to enjoy a day at the seaside the number
352 bus goes direct from Newcastle to Blackpool,
calling at Durham, Barnard Castle and Kirby Stephen.
