Famous as an important
seat of learning, international students flock to London
to be part of some of the UK’s premier universities.
The University
of London is a huge and extremely diverse place, with
more than 18 district colleges, uniting a range of talented
lecturers and a wealth of disciplines. The UOL was founded
in 1829, and was the first college outside of Oxford and
Cambridge. It was also the first college to admit students
regardless of age, race or religion, setting the standard
for its international flavour.
One of UOL’s most famous colleges is University
College London, Gower Street, WC1. UCL has set the
standard for teaching excellence and constantly appears
in the top 10 list of learning institutions. UCL is famed
for its engineering, medical, and languages teaching.
There’s also a big student union presence and creative
societies such as drama, music and art are particularly
strong.
Another college that forms part of the University of London
is King’s
College London. Located at The Strand and close to
the Royal Courts of Justice and the Inns of Court, King’s
College has a strong reputation for offering English and
History studies.
The New York Film Academy [map], within King’s
College, provides a base for production staff of the future
who have the chance to learn the skills of the trade alongside
some famous directors, writers and technical staff.
The London
Metropolitan University specialises in sociology and
psychology as well as education studies. With a wide range
of colleges across the whole of London, including EC1
and E1, there’s a variety of courses on offer.
