| If you’re
looking for some great cricket action during your stay
in Cardiff then you’re in luck because the city
is home to the renowned Glamorgan County Cricket Club
[map] .
The club plays at the beautiful Sophia Gardens,
which is set on the banks of the River Taff with lots of trees and parkland around so whether there
is cricket on or not, you can enjoy a day's sunbathing
when the weather is right.
Glamorgan have won the County Championship three
times, in 1948, 1969 and most recently in 1997, as well
as being crowned One-day League Champions in 1993 and 2002.
Each season they are generally somewhere near the top
of the championship so you can expect to see some first
class cricket against the likes of Derbyshire, Hampshire
and Leicestershire.
The team also plays in the National Cricket League against clubs such as Surrey, Kent and Lancashire,
as well as participating in the Twenty20 Cup.
If you would rather spend a sunny Sunday playing cricket
then there are plenty of venues around Cardiff just for
you. There are more than 40 outdoor leisure locations
across the city including 17 cricket pitches, which
you will need to book in advance through Cardiff County
Council.
For those who just want to practice their batting and
bowling with the family, you can make use of the many
scenic parks around the capital, including Roath Park and Cathays Park.
