The drive from England into South Wales can be a very pleasant experience as you take in the beautiful Welsh countryside that surrounds you.
So you’ll be pleased to know the ride by car or motorcycle into the Welsh capital is as easy as it is scenic because Cardiff is right on the motorway network. The M4 motorway runs directly through the north of the city making Cardiff easily accessible from the north, south and east.
If you are driving to the city from London or the south west there is a toll to cross the Severn Bridge on the M4. Toll costs vary depending on the size of the vehicle.
Take the M6 southbound to junction 8 and then join the M5. Continue straight ahead until junction 8 and take the M50. At the end of the motorway continue on the A40, then the A449 and on to the M4. Leave the motorway at junction 29 and follow the A4042 into the city centre.
Take the M4 westbound, cross the Severn Bridge and continue straight ahead on until junction 29. Then take the A4042 and follow signs for the city centre.
Alternatively take the M4 to junction 21and then join the M48, cross the bridge and rejoin the M4 at junction 23 until junction 29. Then take the A4042 and follow signs for the city centre.
Take the M5 to junction 18A and then join the M49. Continue straight ahead on the M4 and cross the Severn Bridge and leave the motorway at junction 29. Take the A4042 and follow signs for the city centre.
Take the M4 until junction 32 and then take the A470 following signs for the city centre.
