There’s plenty to see across the whole of Cambridgeshire and whilst Cambridge is a fantastic base, don’t forget to get out and about during your visit.
If you want to experience life on the farm, head to Sacrewell Farm and Country Centre [map]. This is one of those real hidden gems and you’ll find it deep in the heart of the countryside.
Ideal if you’re planning on taking the family, there’s something for everyone here from a working watermill to a museum of farm equipment. Children will particularly enjoy the play area and tractor rides, and, of course, they are invited to feed the baby animals at certain times of the day. Don’t forget to take a breather in the excellent on site restaurant.
Find out about Cambridge’s most famous son by visiting the Cromwell Museum [map]. This museum brings to life the legacy of Oliver Cromwell, 1599-1658, in the very location he attended school. There’s clothing, artefacts, original documents and a whole manner of things from his life and those of his peers.
Take another escape to the past and visit Ely Cathedral [map], just 25 minutes from Cambridge. Offering a uniquely beautiful cathedral, Ely is a wonderful small market town perfect for meandering around on a warm summer’s day. The combination of majestic Romanesque and Gothic architecture, sensitive lighting, and a real sense of history, makes this a truly unforgettable place to visit.
