Sometimes the best place to go to find information about a city and its events is the library.
Libraries are no longer the dusty stuffy silent places they once were and now offer a vibrant mix of research opportunities, educational activities and fun ways to get involved in the community.
Many also offer Internet access, which could bring an end to the days of trawling around the research library with huge bibliographies for hours.
Cambridge’s Central Library [map] can be found at Lion Yard and has undergone a vast redevelopment.
There’s a range of facilities at the Central Library including a pensions drop-in advice centre, Friends Group, café, learning centre, Connexions support for young people, Storytime for children every Saturday morning, and plenty of equipment to help those putting together presentations.
Internet access is also available with more than 60 terminals, as well as a scanner, DVD and CD players, Microfiche and Microfilm.
Cambridgeshire has 31 building-based libraries across its area. Members of the public are welcome to use the facilities but those wishing to borrow books, CDs, and videos must live, work or study in the area. |
