When you’re in the mood for some foot-tapping, hand-clapping live music you’ll find plenty of places to see your favourite band in action, or to enjoy something completely different, here in Cambridge. If you fancy yourself as a bit of a Simon Cowell svengali and believe you could spot the talent of the future head to The Boat Race [map] on East Road. It is here that an unknown band called Oasis cut their teeth back in 1994 just before the world went Gallagher-crazy and you never know who you’ll see next in this venue. It’s open seven days a week and has a full programme of alternative music to get you pogo-ing with the best of them. Combine your love of music with a spot of drama and head to The Cambridge Arts Theatre [map] which is where you’ll see some new writing and plenty of good music. Alternatively, The Cambridge Corn Exchange [map] is the place to catch the latest touring production direct from the West End of London. Musicals such as Chicago and Annie are regularly brought here but you’ll also catch some of Britain’s best-loved celebrities, tribute bands and the real deal from popular bands of yesteryear. Those who like their music as smooth as their coffee should head to The Elm Tree [map] on Orchard Street which hosts jazz on three nights a week. See the best in Cambridge jazz talent here and maybe pick up a few tips yourself. If you enjoy a stirring piece of classical music The West End Road Concert Hall [map] should be right up your street. Owned by the University of Cambridge this hall hosts the Cambridge Orchestra as well as other talented students. You’ll also have the opportunity to see and hear musicians from across the globe.
