Whether you want to tread the boards and get involved in tap, ballet or contemporary dance, or simply prefer to sit back and watch the experts, you’ll find a great selection of places to do just that in Cambridge.
Head to the Cambridge Corn Exchange [map] on Wheeler Street which is the best place to catch the latest dance acts directly from the West End. Shows like Tango Pasion should get you in the dancing spirit or why not get in step with The Rocky Horror Show? Alongside the touring productions there’s also a great selection of showcases from the best dance schools in the area, which might just give you the motivation to get involved yourself.
If you’re keen to learn to dance yourself and fancy some Latin spirit, then St Columbus Hall [map] offers a range of styles to suit beginners, intermediates and those with advanced knowledge. Choose from Salsa, Latin Line Dancing, and Capoeira (Brazilian dance-fighting). There’s even traditional ballroom for those who prefer a slower form of exercise.
The Cambridge University Contemporary Dance Workshop is a great place to either see a production or get involved in one of the workshops yourself. Classes begin in October of each year and offer an eclectic range of dance, from hip hop to Bollywood.
You don’t have to be a member of the university to get involved and there’s plenty of fun to be had whatever your ability. As long as you’ve got rhythm you’ll find a style to suit you. Click here for more details about the Contemporary Dance Workshop.
