Travelling in and around Cambridge is simple, as you won’t experience the same traffic congestion that you do in some major cities.
There are plenty of car parks in and around the city centre and the most central one is just behind the Central Library at Lion Yard [map]. It does get full very quickly between the hours of 11am-3pm but is a secure and safe place for both your car and yourself.
However, when there’s public transport available who needs to sit in traffic jams for hours on end?
You can park your car in one of Cambridge’s four park and ride facilities, which are in operation Monday-Saturday and mainly run every 10-15 minutes.
The bus station [map] can be found at Drummer Street, and it is here that you can catch a Stagecoach Cambus, which is the main bus operator in Cambridge.
The railway station [map] is at Station Road, and is a 25-minute walk from the city centre. However, this is the perfect place to hail a black cab. For your own safety, always make sure that you can see the driver’s license.
If you want to get a taxi from your accommodation to the city centre, there are plenty of reputable firms offering a door-to-door service.
