From creative writing courses to the very latest in web-based technology, Bristol libraries are far removed from the old image of dusty shelves and silent reading of yesteryear. Bristol’s libraries are vibrant and creative environments that positively encourage children and younger people to pick up a book or get involved in research.
The Central Library [map] can be found at College Green, which is right in the heart of the city centre. This library offers all the usual services, including Internet access, so if you’re feeling a bit lost during your stay in Bristol this might be just the place to find the answers.
You can enroll in a range of free courses here and there’s also a relaxed café from which you can watch the world go by.
To become a member of a library in Bristol you need to either live, work or study in the area of the library you wish to use. You must bring proof of ID with you, which must include two utility bills or something equivalent with your address on.
If you do not qualify for membership to one of Bristol’s many libraries you can still take advantage of some facilities, although you cannot hire books, DVDs, or CDs.
