If you’re a fan of live musical performances, you’ll find an extremely eclectic mix of fine musicians in Bristol.
Start your venture into Bristol's music scene at the Prom Music and Café Bar [map] on Gloucester Road. The Prom is an established music venue, bar & cafe in Bristol, which has gone from success to even more success over the years. Throughout the week The Prom sees a vibrant mix of folk, blues, jazz, rock and country from local and national bands. The Prom is big on atmosphere and a popular venue among local artists.
Alternative music lovers should head a little further afield to Moles Club [map] on George Street. Founded upon a strong live music policy, real ale and a comfortable backdrop, the club has expanded and continued to develop over the years. The club now offers an excellent selection of beers, lagers and spirits. It also boasts a seven-kilowatt, state-of-the-art sound system.
For a spot of boozing to go with your schmoozing, head to the Fleece and Firkin [map] on St Thomas Street. This is a great place to hear some of the best tribute bands and live alternative and acoustic acts on the scene.
In a similar vein Fiddlers [map] in Bedminster has a fantastic reputation for offering top class alternative and acoustic music, as do all of the other Fiddler pubs in the group, which are dotted across the UK. This is where you’ll see some great tribute bands and the cream of the local indie scene.
For a night of partying head to the Bierkeller [map] on All Saints Street. This is a very original way to spend a hen, stag or office party and the live music is provided by Bierkellers own “oompah band”. A visit here is lots of fun for everyone and it may not be long before you lose your inhibitions and go for a spot of leg kicking and table dancing.
If you’re looking for something a bit more sedate, the Bristol Concert Orchestra have a varied programme throughout the year offering classical, jazz and modern shows. Being the biggest community orchestra group in the area means that you’re sure to get a varied bill of exciting reviews and concerts. Many are held at St Georges Church, Bristol [map], or St Alban’s Church [map] in Westbury.
