Whether you’re
after designer gear, gadgets, wacky shoes, souvenirs or a bucket and
spade, there’s a shop in Brighton to meet your needs. The most popular shopping districts are The Lanes, for its designer names, and North Laine, for its crazy independent stores. Brighton’s premier shopping centre is Churchill Square [map], situated in the heart of city centre but only five minutes walk from the beach. Here you’ll find an array of 90 shops, including Oasis, River Island and designer store Envy, along with a number of restaurants and cafes. The centre is open seven days a week, has two car parks, a crèche for 2-8 year olds, toilets, nappy changing, a bank, cash-point and telephones. In the city centre you’ll also find a few department stores including British Home Stores (BHS) and Marks and Spencer, where you can pick up men’s, ladies and children’s clothes, homeware, flowers and jewellery. Situated on the harbour is Brighton Marina, the UK's biggest marina that incorporates bars, cafés, restaurants, a 26-lane bowling alley, cinema, Asda hypermarket and the Brighton Marina Factory Outlet Shopping Centre [map]. This shopping centre plays host to a selection of designer and high street shops, such as Mexx, Calvin Klein, Reebok, Office and French Connection, which sell end of line stock with up to 50% off. It’s certainly the place to go for a fashion bargain. If you prefer to wander round market stalls looking for a bric-a-brac bargain then head to Brighton Flea Market [map] in Kemp Town, which houses a collection of the fascinating, the rare, the ornamental and the just plain useless. There are more than 60 independent stalls here selling a variety of antiques, furniture, bric-a-brac and collectibles that is well worth a visit even if you have no intention of making a purchase. Finally if you’re looking for a souvenir to mark your trip to Brighton, take a trip to Streetwise [map] on Castle Square, where you can find everything from a Royal Pavilion snow-shaker to Brighton t-shirts. This shop also has a variety of souvenirs for London, from fridge magnets of Big Ben to tea towels, display plates, coasters and trays. But it’s the Brighton mugs, ashtrays, postcards and wooden carvings, along with the Union Jack flags, toys and car stickers that people usually come here for.
