Brighton is a compact
city, which means most tourist attractions are easy to get to
on foot, but there is also a good choice of public transport for those
who want to rest their weary legs. Bus travel in Brighton and nearby Hove is deemed good value with a standard single fare within the city centre of just over £1. There are plenty of designated bus lanes helping to speed services past other traffic, while buses run every few minutes on main routes in and out of the city centre. Add to this an array of clean and comfortable vehicles and plenty of bus stops in the city centre and you’ve got all the right ingredients for a good service. If you prefer a door-to-door service then why not opt to travel by taxi, as there are hundreds of hackney cabs operating in Brighton that you can flag down on the street. The main taxi ranks in the city centre are located in East Street [map], Queen's Square [map] and at Hove Town Hall [map]. There are also plenty of private hire car companies, where you can book taxis in advance. For those who fancy combining exercise with getting around, why not hop on your bike and make the most of the network of cycle lanes in and around the city centre. You can also find cycle routes along the seafront, at Victoria Gardens [map] and Lewes Road [map].
