You may be surprised
to learn that Blackpool is the second largest retail town in Lancashire,
with a shopping population exceeding 150,000. Ranking 99th nationally,
the resort has a wealth of high street shops, large department stores
and independent retailers that combined sell everything from clothes
and jewellery to cigars and Blackpool rock.
Situated close to the Tower, Blackpool’s main shopping venue
is the Hounds Hill Shopping Centre [map],
which boasts more than 40 shops and a large café. Here you’ll
find well-known names such as Littlewoods, Mark One, Dorothy Perkins,
Early Learning Centre, Superdrug, Pilot, Claire's Accessories, Clinton
Cards and Ernest Jones.
Once you've shopped 'til you've dropped, you can pay a visit to the
Mall Café on the first floor, which offers everything
from coffee and cake to burger and fries.
For those who are driving into the town centre, there is a multi-storey
car park located at the top of the shopping centre that has 750 spaces
and is open from 7am to 11.30pm everyday.
Other areas of the town that are also popular with shoppers are Victoria
Street [map],
Church Street [map],
Bank Hey Street [map]
and Market Street [map],
as they all have an array of speciality and independent stores. Amid
these streets you’ll also find Blackpool's main shops including
Marks and Spencer, Boots, BHS, WH Smith, Woolworths, Next, HMV, Argos
and JJB Sports.
Alternatively, if you prefer the hustle and bustle of a market then
the Abingdon Street Market [map]
near the post office is the place for you. Open from Monday to
Saturday, this place offers a wide selection of fresh produce along
with traditional household and other goods.
If you head closer to the seafront to Bank Hey Street, you’ll
come across Pricebusters [map],
which is dubbed one of the best indoor markets in the UK. Open all
year round, seven days a week, the market has usual stalls, an entertainment
area and a restaurant.
