Football in Birmingham |
 |
 |
Birmingham is the UK’s
second largest city and as such does not disappoint when it comes
to the national sport.
If you’re a fan of football or fancy learning what the game
is all about then Birmingham is a good place to go as it has a multitude
of football facilities for amateurs and three professional football
teams that span the football league.
If you’re looking to play football in Birmingham with your friends
or work colleagues then why not try some of the local leisure centres
for indoor and outdoor facilities. Nechells Community
Sports Centre [map]
can be found to the north of Birmingham city centre. There you can
find full size, grass football pitches as well as floodlit football
facilities and 5-a-side pitches.
Slightly further out of town in the Redditch area of the city you’ll
find Abbey Stadium [map],
a sports complex that features three outdoor football pitches as well
as indoor 5-a-side facilities.
If you know of any soccer mad boys or girls in the Birmingham area
why not get them enrolled in Strikes Junior Soccer Academy.
This local council backed initiative aims to develop soccer skills
in 4 – 13 year olds through a structured programme that teaches
on the ball skills. To find out more check out Birmingham’s
council website.
For those who would rather watch the beautiful game rather than get
sweaty playing it there are three teams in Birmingham you could go
and watch.
The biggest and most successful team in the city is Aston Villa
who play their home games at Villa Park [map].
The other two clubs that make their home in the city are West Bromwich
Albion and Birmingham FC. Find out more about all these
clubs by reading the features below. |
