Vegetarian In Belfast |

 |
When it comes to an abundance
of vegetarian cuisine, Belfast still has a long way to go. It’s
also fair to say that you won’t find a vegan sanctuary on every
corner but there are some great restaurants blazing a trail for veggies
everywhere. Archana Balti House [map],
Dublin Road, sells veggie dishes that might even tempt your omnivore
friends. Archana was once known as “Little India” and
has the impressive accolade of being Belfast’s first vegetarian
restaurant. Archana has kept the large veggie menu (an impressive
76 dishes to choose from), and there’s also plenty for vegans
here who can choose from up to 80 per cent of the menu including a
range of vegan-friendly beer, and Naan bread that contains no diary
products.
If you want to taste some delicate flavours head to Thai Village
[map],
Dublin Road. Whilst the menu is not exclusively vegetarian, there
is an impressive vegetarian and vegan menu. Indulge your senses in
a light green curry or go for the heat of a spicy red dish.
Experience the strong sense of community in Belfast by heading to
Giros Vegetarian/Vegan Café [map]
, Donegall Lane. This is where the youth and community group hang
out as well as being home to some of the tastiest vegetarian food
on offer in the city.
Staffed by volunteers and having been a staple part of the local’s
cuisine for more than 14 years, Giros offers a wide selection of veggie,
vegan, organic and fair trade food. You might also catch some of the
best young music talent performing here as this is the place for the
City Arts Workshop.
