Horse Racing In Belfast |

Whether you’re
hoping to dress up smart and have a picnic at the horses or take the
older members of the family to a lively night out at the dogs there’s
plenty of opportunities to go racing in Belfast.
There’s a really fun night to be had at Ballyskeagh Greyhound
Stadium [map]
on Ballyskeagh Road. You can bet on a dog and see if your fortune
comes in on four legs. You could even dine in the stadium’s
restaurant before heading out to watch all the action. Down
Royal Racecourse [map]
is located just 10 miles south of Belfast at Maze, Lisburn, and has
13 meetings throughout the year including the Bass Ireland St Patrick’s
Day meeting, the Mirror May Day meeting, the Anglo Irish
Bank Derby meeting and the internationally acclaimed Northern
Ireland Festival of Racing in November. Down Royal
Racecourse has brought the sport of kings to generations of people
in Ulster since the 17th century and is proud to boast some of the
most modern facilities for any race-goer.
Since the early 1990’s the racecourse has undertaken major development
and modernisation. Phase one in 1993 saw the completion of a new grandstand
which introduced 14 corporate boxes, a VIP hospitality suite, a public
bar and an elevated viewing area overlooking the track and finish
post.
The most recent facility at the racecourse is the weigh room and administration
complex. Completed in 2000 this multifunctional building holds all
the facilities for race day officials, jockeys, and administration
staff. And on the first floor a spacious member’s suite can
accommodate more than 300 people and is reserved for members', owners
and trainers.
