As far as universities
go, Bath University [map] is a relatively modern one
in its official capacity. The University received its
Royal Charter in 1966, but it can trace its history back
to the Bristol Trade School of 1856, which from
1885 came under the patronage of the Merchant Venturers’
Society as the Merchant Venturers’ Technical College.
Today Bath University is a leading UK University with
an international reputation for teaching and research.
The University’s mission is to: “advance learning
and knowledge by teaching and research, particularly in
science and technology, and in close association with
industry and commerce…”
Bath excels at the teaching of and research in the fields
of engineering, languages, science, social sciences and
management, and many students enjoy the opportunity to
go abroad during their course of study or gain experience
in their chosen field.
Many undergraduates choose Bath because it offers a safe
and happy community within close proximity to the city
centre. All first-year students have access to campus
accommodation both at the University and across the city
to help them get into the swing of student life in the
city.
