GO Romantic in Aberdeen

Romantic Evenings in Aberdeen If you want to show a loved one just how much you care then plan your romantic break in Aberdeen, the historic and mesmerising Granite City.

For starters there are a number of luxury hotels in the city centre that offer all the right ingredients for a weekend of love.

The landmark Hilton Aberdeen Treetops Hotel [map] on Springfield Road is part of the world famous hotel chain, and has a range of top class facilities, including the Bar Bacoa restaurant and the Livingwell health club, which has a gym, spa and swimming pool.

Also part of a national chain, the Patio Hotel [map] on Beach Boulevard has wonderful sea views and is within walking distance of Aberdeen’s golden sands. The hotel also offers leisure facilities, including a swimming pool.

Alternatively you could stay on the outskirts of the city centre at the stylish five star Marcliffe at Pitfodels [map], which is situated in 11 acres of wooded grounds. Many of the bedrooms and suites have antique furniture and paintings, while all have satellite TV, direct-dial telephones, bathrobes, mini-bars, fresh fruit, and newspapers and magazines. Guests can enjoy a meal in the top class Conservatory restaurant, where the chefs rustle up specialities using fish and shellfish from local rivers and ports. Alternatively sit back and relax in the Drawing Room, which is famous for its collection of over 100 malt whiskies.

Once your accommodation is arranged you’ll need to decide how to spend your precious time together. Luckily, Aberdeen has a wealth of attractions where you get in the mood or intimacy and romance, including the idyllic Duthie Park Winter Gardens [map], which is Europe’s largest indoor garden collection, with flowers, fish, birds and insects from all over the world.

Also in Duthie Park you’ll find the wonderful Rose Hill, which has a staggering 12,000 different types of rose covering every square inch of the hill. So even if you can’t afford to buy the one you love a bunch of red roses, we’re sure taking them to see 12,000 will be just as romantic!

Art is also a classic attraction when it comes to romance so why not head to the city’s main art gallery and get ready for love. Aberdeen Art Gallery [map] attracts around 300,000 visitors every year, thanks to its exciting programme of temporary displays and permanent collection of paintings, sculpture, costume, silver and ceramics, including work by Monet, Renoir, Sisley, and Bonnard.

To cap off your fairytale day pay a visit to one of the Grampian Highlands’ many castles, such as Craigievar Castle [map], which is believed to have inspired Walt Disney to design the Disney Castle.

Also worth a look is Dunnottar Castle [map], a dramatic ruin where the 1990 film version of Hamlet, starring Mel Gibson, was filmed. Located 15 miles from Aberdeen near the scenic town of Stonehaven, this castle has been home to many of Scotland’s famous outlaws, including William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots and the Marquis of Montrose.

As evening approaches why not enjoy a slap-up meal at one of Aberdeen’s exquisite restaurants, such as the swanky Milton Restaurant [map] on the outskirts of town overlooking Crathes Castle.

After dinner why not enjoy a night at the theatre or the cinema, where you can hold hands in the dark and even sneak a kiss if you’re lucky.

Situated on Rosemount Viaduct in the heart of the central Aberdeen, the His Majesty’s Theatre [map] is the city’s main venue for top class drama and music events.

Alternatively, head for the back row of the movies and steal a few kisses while watching the latest Hollywood blockbuster at the UGC Cinema [map] at the Queens Link Leisure Park.
